Monasterboice is north of Drogheda in County Louth in the Republic of Ireland. It is an early Christian settlement worthy of visiting
because of its spectacular high crosses from
the tenth century. Monasterboice was founded in the late fifth century by St. Buite.
There is a round tower at Monasterboice that
is approximately 35 meters.
The beautiful Muiredach High Cross
has biblical carvings of both the Old and NewTestaments of the Bible.
Volunteers at Monasterboice conduct free
tours. The volunteer guide who conducted
our tour was extremely interesting and
informative.
Melifont Abbey is nearby so both
historic sites can be seen easily while
you are in the area.
