The Burren is an area in northwest County Clare that is well-known for its abundance of rocks and limestone terrain. It measures approximately 250 square kilometers. It has several Stone Age monuments and ring forts and is very rich in historical and archaeological history. There are more than 90 megalithic tombs in the area including portal dolmens. Some of the villages in the Burren include Lisdoonvarna, Ballyvaughan, Fanore, Craggagh, New Quay, Bellharbour, Doolin, and Carron.
There is a diversity of Arctic, Mediterranean, and Alpine plants that manage to grow in the Burren. Several caves of interest can be found
in the Burren.
A history of traditional music is strong in the Burren area as well as
an appreciation for walking.
